About us

Established in 1990, the Hokkaido International Business Association is a non-profit organization which seeks to support and promote international business and friendship in Hokkaido while serving as an information network for the international business community.

Monthly Meetings

Regular meetings are held once a month, generally alternating between lunch and evening meetings. The purpose of these meetings is to inform members of current and future developments regarding business in Hokkaido/Japan. It is also an opportunity for members to share opinions, ideas, and helpful hints that they have found valuable in their personal or professional lives here in Hokkaido. Meetings often feature an introduction to facilities or services or a guest who speaks on topics relevant to international business.
 

Monthly Newsletter

HIBA News is published and sent out by e-mail every month. Contents include meeting summaries, upcoming meetings and event information, readers' comments and opinions, and other relevant information. The current issue as well as back issues of HIBA News can also be found on this website in the News section. You can subscribe to the mailing list in the Join Our Mailing List section in the sidebar of this site.
 

Special Events

In addition to the regular meetings, HIBA participates in a variety of business, recreational, and sporting events. Most recently HIBA hosted The International Food & Drink Festival. There are also annual parties for members and their families during "Hanami", Summer Festival, Christmas, and others. Please refer to the Calendar page to see upcoming events.
 

Join Us!

The membership is composed of local business people--both foreign and Japanese--who are engaged in a variety of international business activities.
 
New members are always welcome!
 
Just click here or on the Create New Account link at the bottom of the sidebar on this website to create your profile, become a member, and be listed in the Members List directory. Once your profile has been approved by an admin you can use the website, and we will follow up to contact you about payment of the Membership fee.
 
Individual Membership: Fees are 10,000 yen per year. This is open to anybody and allows full voting rights, receipt of the monthly newsletter, membership of HIBA mailing and newsgroups, attendance at general and board meetings, and participation in subsidized functions.

Student Membership: Fees are 5,000 per year and are open to any bona fide student. Membership rights are the same as individual members except for ineligibility for subsidized functions.

Corporate Membership: Fees are 25,000 yen per year, this allows up to 5 staff the same rights as individual members.

Overseas Membership is free. Members are entitled to receipt of our monthly newsletter and membership of HIBA mailing and newsgroups.

Diplomatic membership is free and is awarded to accredited members of the Foreign Diplomatic community. Diplomatic members may not vote nor benefit from subsidized functions.

Honorary membership is free and is awarded to suitable recipients by the board.

Associate memberships are given to organizations that HIBA benefits from having an association with, and usually involve an exchange of memberships. Associate members may attend meetings and receive newsletters and take part in mailing lists.
