Shinenkai New Years Party February 4th

HIBA will be having our shinenkai new years party on Saturday February 4th. This is an everyone welcome open event, so please bring your friends and business associates to introduce them to HIBA! The venue will be La Paella Cafe & Restaurant in Maruyama. 

This is the menu plan for the party:

-Homemade bread with Ali-Oli sauce
-Mushrooms in garlic sauce
-Three color salad with cheese
-Grilled Chorizo
-Mixed Paella

Happy New Year from HIBA!

We would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous new year in 2012! 2011 was a very challenging year for many of us here in Hokkaido, with the March 11 earthquake causing a great deal of economic damage. Many of us are still struggling to rebuild our businesses, and the next year will continue to be a time when the support of business associations like HIBA is extremely important.

　新年あけましておめでとうございます。

　北海道国際ビジネス協会の会員の皆様におかれましては益々ご健勝のこととお慶び申し上げます。

　旧年中は東日本大震災による経済への影響が多方面に及び、当協会会員様にもビジネスへの如実な影響が見受けられました。

しかしながら当協会は実に多くの方々のご支援とご指導により新規会員様の数も増え、また11月には新役員会が誕生したことにより新たなスタートをきることができました。

HIS Snow Festival Classic Basketball Tournament

Come join the sporting fun at Hokkaido International School, February 3 - 5. HIS will be hosting local and international schools in pursuit of the Snow Festival Classic trophy. It is a great deal of fun and a wonderful chance to see some competative high school basketball. Keep tabs on the HIS website for times and dates of various games.

　私はこの度HIBAの理事に選任されたことをとても光栄に存じます。私は９年前に初めて北海道に降り立ったとき、この土地が持つ独自性と美しさに魅了され、長く滞在したいと感じました。その思いは今日でもなお変わらず、北海道は可能性に満ちたパイオニアの土地であり、様々な分野において日本のみならずアジアのフロンティアであると考えております。北海道の人々は独自のエネルギーや精神を持ち、友好的かつ積極的であると同時に克己心を併せ持っています。北海道はその歴史の中で独自の国際的性格を築いてきており、それは19世紀より活発な貿易を行ってきた小樽港や、「少年よ、大志を抱け」の格言で有名なウィリアム・クラーク博士のように、この土地の発展に大いなる貢献をした開拓者達の存在に見受けられます。
私は、北海道は国際的ハブ、主にアジアにおける貿易拠点へと成長する可能性を秘めていると考えています。アジアと北アメリカ大陸を最短距離で結ぶ苫小牧港や新千歳国際空港、更には既存の強力なインフラ設備と、この土地は国際的交流拠点に必要とされる要素をすべて兼ね備えています。人々がこれらの要素をより活発に利用することが出来れば北海道経済の更なる成長に繋がるでしょう。私はHIBAがそのような大志を抱く人々の出会いの場であり、数々のアイディアの実現を導く組織であると信じております。

Message from the Chairman

I am very happy to have this opportunity to serve as Chairman of HIBA. When I first arrived in Hokkaido 9 years ago I realized very quickly that this is a unique and beautiful place, and somewhere I wanted to stay long term. I sensed then and I feel even more so today that Hokkaido is a land of opportunity, a land for pioneers, in many ways the frontier of Japan and of Asia. Hokkaido's people have a unique energy and spirit, friendly, outgoing and somehow stoic all at the same time.

Annual General Meeting Report

This year's AGM was a great success! Thank you to everyone who came. Attendance was good and the food, service and overall atmosphere of La Paella was excellent. A big thank you to Rafael and the staff of La Paella for the special dinner they prepared, not to mention the excellent wine and cocktails!
